Child Development

As parents, we experience joy and frustration over our child’s constant change in growth, development and emotions. Understanding the stages of child development helps us know what to expect and how to best support children as they mature. It also helps us to realize that all children grow and develop at their own pace and learn best in family and community spaces.

Understanding child development allows us an opportunity to provide individual, culturally and age appropriate experiences for young children. When we understand what is expected, we are better prepared to provide opportunities that are more achievable for young children. This leads to children feeling less frustration as they approach new experiences.

Current research about child and brain development provides us with clues about how a child develops and the importance of providing positive experiences within the first five years of life.
