Milwaukee PBS along with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel have partnered to produce an eye-opening documentary on Wisconsin’s struggling dairy industry. The hour-long special, premiering on November 18 at 7:00 pm on Milwaukee PBS 10.1, looks at the continuing crisis and the future for farmers, businesses, and communities who rely on the dairy industry to survive. America’s Dairyland: At the Crossroads explores the heartbreak families in the dairy industry are experiencing and the struggle to continue their way of life.
Wisconsin has lost 68% of its dairy farms since 2000, while gaining large, corporate farms. The industry has been the state’s economic engine, generating more than $45 billion a year. But many farmers are at a crossroads of either making big changes or calling it quits.
Milwaukee PBS is proud to present America’s Dairyland: At the Crossroads from Milwaukee PBS producers Maryann Lazarski and Scottie Meyers, along with Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporter Rick Barrett, who have worked on unearthing the facts surrounding the state of Wisconsin’s dairy industry.
“This documentary looks at the blood, sweat and now tears that have enveloped the dairy industry in recent years, “said Milwaukee PBS Vice President and General Manager Bohdan Zachary. “We think it’s critical that our communities recognize the importance of this topic due to its impact on the entire state.”
