MILWAUKEE PBS WINS AWARD FROM NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK JOURNALISTS
This past weekend, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Salute to Excellence Awards recognized Milwaukee PBS’ Black Nouveau for journalism that best covers the Black experience or addresses issues affecting the worldwide Black community. Black Nouveau was honored in the Television – Market 16 and Below: Public Affairs: Segment Category for its segment “Enslaved, Indentured, Free.” The segment was broadcast in Black Nouveau’s November 2022 program. It takes a deep look at slavery in Prairie du Chien during the 1800s. Alexandria Mack produced the segment along with Brian Ewig, videographer; Chris Michalski, audio engineer and drone; Justin Migliano, additional videographer and Darin Malkowski, editor. “Milwaukee PBS is honored to be recognized again in this competition, “said VP and General Manager Debbie Hamlett. “We are proud of the stories that Black Nouveau shares and its dedicated focus on our African American community.” For 31 seasons Black Nouveau has explored the African American experience in Milwaukee and beyond by highlighting stories of art, culture, social issues and more through the voices of those that call the city or state home. Black Nouveau is broadcast on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm on Milwaukee PBS 10.1. It is available online at milwaukeepbs.org. NABJ is the largest organization for journalists of color in the nation. Its Salute to Excellence Awards honors work from print, television, radio, online, photojournalism and public relations. Winners were announced during NABJ's Salute to Excellence Gala in Birmingham, Alabama on August 5.
