National Railroad Museum - Green Bay, WI

Join Milwaukee PBS this June on a one-day trip to Green Bay, WI. Visit The National Railroad Museum’s 33 acres, the site of an increasing collection of historic railroad equipment.
Some of the Museum’s unique locomotives include
• Union Pacific #4017
• “Big Boy,” the Pershing
• Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive
• and more pieces, which are representative of U.S., railroad history
The Museum now features more than 70 pieces of rolling stock, 100,000-plus small artifacts, operating / display tracks, seasonal train rides, and special events.
We will arrive in time for a Hobo lunch, before learning about the collection housed in the interior of the museum on a guided tour.
Afterward, you can freely explore the exterior collection at your own pace. Later we will come aboard the train for an educational ride throughout the grounds, which includes wooded areas and the Fox River shoreline. The conductor will describe the rolling stock, museum highlights, railroad safety, and hobo culture.
Before our return home, enjoy a delectable meal aboard the Dinner Train.

New Life Lavender Farm & The Ringling Brothers Baraboo, Wisconsin

Enjoy The New Life Lavender Cherry Farm for a self-guided tour, shopping, and a treat. The farm boasts over 25 varieties of lavender, 10,000 lavender plants, as well as 5 acres of wildflower fields. It is the perfect place to take in the view, smell the flowers, and indulge in lavender goodies.
Visit the Ochsner Park Zoo, the zoo first opened in 1926 with 2 bear cubs and some deer fawns, and now has over 30 different animal species. The majority of the animals are either rehabilitated wildlife that are not able to be released or animals rescued from the exotic pet trade.
Next, you will explore The Ringling Brothers Theater. Built in 1915 the AL. Ringling Theatre is a treasure of rare quality. Magnificent and richly designed in the style of grand French opera houses, the theatre is a masterpiece of European architecture.
Discover the AL Ringling Mansion on a guided tour. This spectacular red stone mansion was the home of legendary circus showman AL. Ringling and his wife Lou and later it became the home of Ida Ringling North, AL.’s only sister. The Ringling Bros. Circus was at its peak when the mansion was built.

The Volo Museum - Volo, IL
September 1, 2023
Join Milwaukee PBS on one trip to explore the Volo Museum.
The museum contains an exhibit of collectors' autos from vintage to modern classics, with the focus being American cars of the 1950–1980 period, TV and movie cars, bizarre cars, cars previously owned by the rich and famous, and a large, one-of-a-kind, Disney and Looney Toons characters display. Unique to this museum is that many of the vehicles on display (in five large buildings) are for sale. One of 33 exhibits on the 25-acre museum campus is a military-oriented "Armed Forces Exhibit," added in the late 2000s.
Discover thousands of Mechanical Marvels from the first motorcycle to a self-playing orchestra. Whether you are taking a stroll down memory lane or experiencing these vintage artifacts, the 33 exhibits will leave you in awe. Exhibits include vintage campers, military, music machines, Disney parade vehicles, TV and movie cars, Duesenberg room, antique tractors, aviation and so many more!
A 20-minute train ride is included and the Jurassic Exhibit is an additional feature also included with your tour.

A Day in Galena - Galena, Illinois
September 8, 2023
Join Milwaukee PBS on a one-day adventure to historic Galena, IL. Explore and have lunch at the DeSoto House, and visit President Ulysses S. Grant’s home. Tour the West Street Sculpture Park and dine at the Galena Cellars Winery.
Enjoy lunch and a historical tour of the 1855 Desoto House in downtown Galena. The DeSoto House is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Illinois. The most notable visitor was President Abraham Lincoln, who spoke from its Main Street balcony on July 23, 1856. After lunch, visit the 1865 President Ulysses S. Grant’s home a state historic site outfitted with all of its original furnishings.
Following the tour, head to West Street Sculpture Park. Enjoy art and nature and discover more than a dozen, large, welded steel sculptures located over two acres in a natural setting. All art is the work of John Martinson. After exploring the park, walk downtown Galena in your free time.
On our final stop, enjoy a substantial buffet dinner at Galena Cellars Winery. Return to Milwaukee after the winery dinner.

Another Day in The Door - Door County, Wisconsin
September 13, 2023
We head to Brussels in Door County to enjoy Booyah at Belgian Delight for lunch. Booyah is a thick stew, believed to have originated in Belgium, and was made throughout the Upper Midwestern United States. Booyah can require up to two days and multiple cooks to prepare; it is cooked in specially designed "booyah kettles" and is usually meant to serve hundreds or thousands of people.
After lunch, visit Door Peninsula Winery for a quick tasting.
Explore a lighthouse tour as we head north to Fish Creek to experience the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. After the lighthouse tour, you will have some free time for shopping in Fish Creek.
Take in the scenic view at the fully accessible Eagle Tower in Peninsula State Park. High above the Niagara Escarpment on Peninsula's northeast shore stands one of the most popular attractions in Door County. Located on top of Eagle Bluff, offers panoramic views of the park, surrounding islands, the Upper Michigan shoreline, and the Village of Ephraim.
Enjoy a farm-to-table feast at Thyme in Sister Bay for dinner before we return to Milwaukee.

Lunch is served at Steeple Square. A Dubuque icon since 1867, the former home of St. Mary’s Parish is once again a hub for personal growth, celebration, and community empowerment. The former church is now Dubuque’s most unique event space.
Enjoy dessert and a tour of one of the most spectacular historic mansions of the Midwest. The Fannie Stout House was built in 1891 by Henry Stout and then gifted to his daughter Fannie in 1898 as her wedding present. One of the bathrooms alone cost $16,000 in 1891.

A Day in The Past - South Bend, Indiana

Join Milwaukee PBS on a one-day adventure to South Bend, Indiana.
We leave Wisconsin for northern Indiana for lunch. After lunch, tour the Oliver Mansion and the Polish Worker’s House.
Nineteenth-century industrialist J.D. Oliver, his wife, Anna, and their four children built Copshaholm in 1895-1896, a 38-room Romanesque Queen Anne house. Oak, cherry, and mahogany woodwork are found throughout Copshaholm. Leaded glass windows and 14 fireplaces add to the ambiance of the house.
Visit the Worker’s Home, located just a short walk from Copshaholm and in sharp contrast to the elegant Oliver mansion.
Next on the tour is the Studebaker Museum. The Studebaker National Museum covers 150 years of Studebaker Corp. history – from wagon makers to a top American car manufacturer.
Explore the South Bend History Museum. The History Museum has several exciting exhibits throughout the year. The Changing Gallery, Leighton Gallery, and Carroll Gallery all feature changing exhibits.
Dine at the elegant Tippecanoe Restaurant where we enjoy high-end historical fare. We return to Milwaukee after dinner.
