Season 2 brings more romance, intrigue and conflict all set against the historical backdrop of 1840s England. The action resumes one month after Victoria gives birth to her first child. When she decides to quickly return to her royal duties she has the entire monarchy talking.
Writer Daisy Goodwin has teased this season will be "a decade of revolution, famine and unrest – and for Victoria, much childbearing."
Historical events include the disaster of the Anglo-Afghan War and the catastrophic Irish potato famine. In addition Prince Albert finds himself intrigued with the budding Industrial Revolution that is sweeping England.

Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes return as Victoria and Albert. Dame Diana Rigg, joins the cast as the Duchess of Buccleuch, the court’s new Mistress of the Robes –a fount of old-fashioned good sense for the queen, who is now in the throes of motherhood.
Also returning are Rufus Sewall as Lord Melbourne, Victoria’s first Prime Minister and intimate friend and Nell Hudson as Nancy Skerrett, newly promoted to the queen’s chief dresser, whose secrets are yet to be revealed.
